My Anniversary Was June 12 and Featured Donations: Books

Former TODAY show anchor, Katie Couric, recently remembered her late husband, Jay Monahan, who died of colon cancer at 42. She wrote a message to him on June 10, 2019—the day that would have been their 30th wedding anniversary.

An excerpt of the message said:

“Dear Jay…It’s June 10th 2019 and today would have been our 30th anniversary,” she wrote. “I hope you would be proud of the way I’ve lived my life and know you’d be proud of your girls who have grown into incredible young women. I think you would like @johnmolner who honors your memory and knows there is room in my heart for you both.” With love, me.

Just two day later on June 12 was what would have been my and Mike’s 15th wedding anniversary. Her words capture my feelings perfectly and succinctly:

I always hope Mike is proud of how I’m living my life.
I know he’d be proud of his boys.
And there’s no doubt he liked my fiancé John.

How do I know this? Because Mike told me when he and John met at a wedding many years ago. John honors Mike every day in countless ways. And for that I’m extremely grateful!

This week’s featured donations are books.

This week’s featured items are books! A theme from my writings is that everyone manages grief differently. I buried myself in books. All different types—grief, the afterlife, accounts of near death experiences, and a lot of light reading! I’ve talked to some people who say they couldn’t concentrate enough to read after a loved one died. But for those like me, I’m going to include books in some of the bags going forward. As always, thank you for all of your generous donations!!

Thanks for supporting The MRP Project. Together, we’re making a difference by providing hope through social support.
