Mike’s Birthday and the Meaning of the MRP Logo

Today is Mike’s birthday. He would have been 43 today. Last night we celebrated his birthday by sending a beautiful lantern into the evening sky (see the picture below). I was so grateful to be able to send the shining light into the sky and celebrate Mike.

Since Mike died, light has meant hope for me. I remember reading the following passage online:

Do you know that feeling; when you’re walking through a dark time and you’re wondering if hope or joy are even possible? Your heart is grieving. And then you feel it—just a hint of light. The smallest ray of hope. And you hold onto it as tightly as you can. –Lisa Leonard

The Sunburst Design

The sunburst design captures that feeling of hope for me; light in the midst of darkness. I was so drawn to the sunburst that I had it designed onto Mike’s wedding ring (see picture below) so I can wear it every day. It has provided me with hope, which has been so important when I feel sad.

When the MRP Project was just an idea in my mind, I remember thinking the logo would be the easiest part. It only made sense that I’d use the sunburst. I decided to add the number 8 in there because that was Mike’s college baseball number. After he passed, many people wore the number 8 to remember him.

So when the MRP Project finally came to fruition, my goal was to help spread rays of light in the midst of darkness. Because of you and your generous donations, my goal has become reality. Last week we delivered a bag to a woman who recently lost her mom. I hope the bag for a boost was light in the midst of darkness.

Thanks for supporting The MRP Project. Together, we’re making a difference by providing hope through social support.
