Featured Donation: Handmade Mug

The majority of our donors and bag recipients are parents of relatively young children so I’d like to share a quote I was given in a grief class called “Parenting While Grieving.”

The greatest gift you can give your children is not protection from change, pain or stress, but the confidence and tools to cope and grow with all that life has to offer them. – Dr. Wendy Schlessel Harpham

I think this quote ties in with what I discussed last week. The kids and I have grown in the last three years. We’re stronger because of our tragedy. Like any other mother, I want to shield my kids from change, pain, stress, and even disappointment.

I’m learning we need to instead give them tools to cope with the situation. Work with them to see a different perspective or find an opportunity to improve and grow from the situation they find themselves in. I know it’s easier said than done, but it’s something to keep in mind.

Featured donation

handmade mugI’m going to start posting a picture of one featured donation each week. I get a lot of questions about what makes a good bag item. I usually say something that provides a comfort or is just fun! I realize that’s pretty vague so I’m going to start featuring one donated item a week to help provide you will ideas.

This week’s item is a cool coffee mug, which happens to be hand-made. It can also be a comforting item when paired with soothing tea! Thanks for this donation. I love it!

Update

Two more bags went out last week. One to a mom battling a serious illness and one to a mom whose husband has been deployed overseas for a year. In a thank you email, one of the recipients said:

I just wanted to send a quick note thanking you for what you do and how these bags bring the feelings of happiness and hope.

Thanks for supporting The MRP Project. Together, we’re making a difference by providing hope through social support.
